In February 2023, the Port of Seattle Commission formally adopted Order 2023-03 (Soomaali, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ, አማርኛ), establishing a permanent On-Demand Taxi Flat-Rate/For-Hire service program at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. One of the elements included in this order noted that “The Port shall explore and develop a driver training and workforce development program for interested drivers.” Since the order was adopted, the Port’s Workforce Development team has taken steps to provide opportunities and resources to drivers. While this work is not over, our progress includes the following:
- A baseline survey, conducted in the Fall of 2023, assessed drivers’ interests in workforce development and was used to evaluate the kind of programming that might be helpful to drivers. View the results of the survey.
- In early 2024, the Port's Workforce Development Team held a Training, Employment, and Resource Fair and created a comprehensive resource document. The Port of Seattle’s Tourism Development department created a PowerPoint presentation, specifically for SEA drivers, to highlight regional activities and deals that might be useful for passengers traveling to and from SEA.
